4. Join the Federal Disaster Relief Program.
It is any easy way to give something back to the community. In the aftermath of recent disasters, it has become clear that there are gaps in the mental health services offered to those in need. Following Katrina, many of us wanted to help, but did not know who to contact, where to volunteer, or, indeed, how to be the most help.  In the immediate aftermath of an event there is typically a great deal of psychological intervention and support available to those impacted by it. Once this support is withdrawn, however, usually within a few weeks, there is less attention paid to the ongoing psychological needs of a community. The life-cycle of a disaster dictates that this is a gap that needs to be addressed. Access to mental health services during this time is critical but often difficult. For those without means or insurance, emotional difficulties can continue and worsen over time. We are asking you as mental health professionals to help us fill that gap. Please join us in creating this database of licensed mental health professionals. With your participation, we will be prepared to serve when our nation’s citizens are most critically in need.  Please click on the links below and download the following two documents to your computer. Fill out the registration form and mail it to:
